Site Checker: Code Shrinker

In this section you learn how you remove unnecessary code, formatting tags (tags that have no influence on the appearance of your website) and redundant tags using the Code Shrinker. The Code Shrinker simplifies HTML code, if necessary, so that better loading times are achieved due to smaller files.

To use the Code Shrinker , do as follows:

  1. From the Site Checker section, choose Code Shrinker.

  2. Select View /Options... to open the Options dialog box.

  3. Select Additional / HTML Shrinker to make the settings for the Code Shrinker.  
    Compression settings
    : Define which of the simplifications the program should take into account. It is recommended to leave all options activated, as there is no risk that the document is damaged in any way. However, loading times can be improved considerably.

    Auto-save compressed files when checking local files
    : If this check box is checked, compressed files are saved automatically.

    Auto-save option
    : This drop down list is activated, if you wish to automatically save compressed files while checking local files. Define whether you wish to save the files in a subfolder or change the file extension. If you wish to change the file extension, enter the desired extension into the Extension field.

    Default Document Name
    : Enter the name of the document. By default, index.html is suggested.

  4. Click OK, to save your settings and to close the Options dialog box.

  5. In the URL field in the toolbar, enter the URL or file name to be checked. Make sure to include "file://" for file names.

  6. Click the Go button to start scanning and compressing files.

  7. When the process is completed you get a compression report. Now you can select a compressed file from the report to display it in the integrated HTML editor.

  8. Then click the Save button to save the file locally. You can choose if you want to save single or all files. You can also upload files directly to a remote server. To do so, click the  Upload button.  

  9.  If you wish to save the report, click the Save report button.
