Site Checker: Load Time Checker

In this section you get to know how you determine the average loading time of a website at different speeds using the Load Time Checker. The Load Time Checker checks the average loading time of your website using several different simulated speeds.

To check the loading time of your website, proceed as follows:

  1. From the Site Checker section, choose Load Time Checker.

  2. Select View /Options... to open the Options dialog box.

  3. Select Additional / Load Time Checker to make the settings for the Load Time Checker.

    Transfer rates to check
: Here you set the transfer rates. You can customize the simulated transfer rates of the program. Values are given in bytes/sec. Current standard modems, for example, offer a speed of 57600 bytes/sec. Using the buttons on the right you can add, delete, move up or move down the transfer rates. The specifications are made in Byte/s. To do so, select the desired transfer rate and click the corresponding button.

    Embedded links
: Define the HTML tags of the intergrated links. This is to specify the HTML sections that are to be checked, e. g. tables <table> or images <img>. To add further HTML tags or delete tags from the list, click the corresponding button.

  4. Click OK, to save your settings and to close the Options dialog box.

  5. In the URL field in the toolbar, enter the URL or file name to be checked. Make sure to include "file://" for file names.

  6. Click Go to start checking the loading time.

  7. The Load Time Checker now determines the loading time for all the elements of the page (e.g. images). The Load Time Checker lists the expected loading time for each checked file at different transfer rates. Under Total at the bottom of the report window, the total loading time of the website is displayed.

  8.  If you wish to save the report, click the Save report button.

Now that you have checked the loading time of your website, refer to the next section to learn how you shorten the HTML code of your website to get a better loading time.
